I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but ...
We are leaving the USA, because my husband's contract has expired. Can we live our bank account here in the USA? Can somebody give me a link to some laws? Thank you

Just a word of caution. My buddy moved back to Ukraine. Left his PayPal and BankOne accounts acitve. BankOne had his checking/savings and online banking option. Well, it was all fine and dandy until he accessed both from his new Ukrainian ISP UNET, I beleive... Well, both institution immediately suspended his accounts with request to verify residency, indicating that they tried to call him with no success (true, phone was disconnected per customers request Smile ). So, if you want to do on-line banking with at least above mentioned two, make sure to set up US based proxy otherwise you will get your accounts suspended.

Всем привет Smile

Thank you very much... I've never thought about the possibility of having problems with on-line banking...
On one web-site I've read the following: "Non-resident aliens can hold investments in the United States quite easily. A "non-resident alien" (NRA) is the U.S. government's name for a citizen of a country other than the U.S. who also lives outside the U.S. The only thing non-resident aliens have to be concerned about if they have U.S. investments is taxation.
For example, if a non-U.S. national works in the U.S. for some period of time and amasses a nice portfolio of stocks while here, that person can hang on to the portfolio forever, no matter whether they continue to live in the U.S. or not. But they will have to continue to deal with the U.S. tax authority, the IRS."

As we have only saving account in Ukr. credit union, and the interest is tax-exampt, I'm not worrying about IRS.
When we asked our credit union about leaving the account here, they told us that even if we
leave, we have to give them some american address, so that they send statements there. We can't convince them that we don't need statements.

So, there are two problems now: on-line banking and address for statements...

Buy the way, did that guy succeed in proving that it's really his accounts?

Thank you.

A vi otkuda, guys?

PayPal would not budge and ended up closing an account without even refunding balance in it (was just over $300) - he did not want to lie and have a hassle with someone here getting his mail and etc. BankOne, I went there and had to give a lengthy explanation. I guess it helped that I had my work ID attached to me and one of the branches of my employer(fortune 100 company) with roughly 1000 employees in the building are right next door to the bank. Well, about half of the building banks there so I think it helped... Basically they noted account and called some fraud prevention department, but they could not guarantee further lockouts so my buddy is now accessing through a proxy.
