Edgrapes,
It is been 4 months and if after interview you have not received anything within 120 days you can sue INS for that. I would suggest contact the senator's office and congressman's office and tell them to look in to the matter. Do mention that it is causing you mental stress. If they don't do anything, also call FBI direct number where you can inquire about the background check. I saw the number on one of the N-400 posts. If you write to them, it will be better. Phone calls are not taken care of as quickly as the written inquiries. This is too much. I don't know why these people are giving trouble to legal persons. They all think about illegal immigrants. What about the legal ones who are waiting for response from them for months and months and they give **** to us. I wish you good luck and hope that you get your oath letter soon.
Keep in touch. ChiChi

2006 4/21 Interview 7/7 Oath Ceremony Appt Notice 7/21 Oath Ceremony!!!!!!!
Total of 368 days from start to finish!

Been 7 months since my interview, still waiting for the darn background check. How lame.
My timeline:
Oct 2005 sent papers Nov 2005 Receipt notice Nov 2005 Fingerprinting notice Dec 2005 Fingerprint Jan 2006 Interview
Passed interview but was told that background check is not back yet. Still waiting to this day. Called FBI, they said that fingerprinting went well. Sent it the next day itself. Now my question is why is it taking that long? My GC didnt't even take 6 months.
Did my interview in the Boston office. Not sure what to do at this point. A background check doesnt have to take 7 months +. I have a clean record.

Hi,
Does anyone have any information on the N-400 application length for someone living in Chicago?
Also, if I have successfully fulfilled all criteria for naturalization (for the past 5 years) yet have been outside of the US constantly for the first 3 years of having a green card, would that jeoparidize my application at all? Or is USCIS concerned with the last 5 years only?
Please advise. Thank you.

Hi IE,
The link you provided does not work or seems to be dead. Do you have any other resources I could consult?
Please let me know, thanks.

It finally worked! Thanks alot.
One question:
Since I live in Illinois, I will have to send my application to the Nebraska service center however on the USCIS website they do not give processing times for the N-400 at each respective service center.
However, they give information on the Chicago district office which as of now says that it is processing applications as of February 15 2006 receipt date.
In essence, does that mean that the process should take about 6 months (i.e. since we are in August?)
If you could also clarify the Nebraska/Chicago service/district center issue, that would be great.
Thanks again.

Edgrapes,
Any news of Oath Ceremony yet ? What happened ? They should have done the Background check by now. That is too long.
Keep us posted.
BTW..my wife's 1-130 which was upgraded from F2A to Immediate Relative worked fine and approved in 2 months. Few more months to process her application at Consulate in India.
Thanks for all your posts and information.
Chris

edgrapes,
You can call this number for FBI background checks. You can either call or write to them on the address below. If you involve or copy your letters to Senetors, Congressman that will atleast ring bell in their minds.
I hope this helps.
