thanks for your info, upa!

Can you share you timelines with us? Especially I am interested how long had you been waiting for the letter to Oath ceremony and how many days in advance did they send that letter?

I appreciate you response in advance. Best regards.

Edgrapes,

It is been 4 months and if after interview you have not received anything within 120 days you can sue INS for that. I would suggest contact the senator's office and congressman's office and tell them to look in to the matter. Do mention that it is causing you mental stress. If they don't do anything, also call FBI direct number where you can inquire about the background check. I saw the number on one of the N-400 posts. If you write to them, it will be better. Phone calls are not taken care of as quickly as the written inquiries.
This is too much. I don't know why these people are giving trouble to legal persons. They all think about illegal immigrants. What about the legal ones who are waiting for response from them for months and months and they give **** to us.
I wish you good luck and hope that you get your oath letter soon.

Keep in touch.

2006

chichi, I have decided to wait a little more before filing any lawsuits against USCIS. I contacted the lawyer I used to work with and she said that she has a couple of clients in the same situation as me and from her experience most of N400 applicants in my area get their Oath ceremony scheduled within 6 months. I hope my case will fall in that timeframe as well.

momof3, thanks for sharing your timelines with us and congratulations with becoming a US citizen, please, keep in touch. Best regards.

Been 7 months since my interview, still waiting for the darn background check. How lame.

My timeline:

Oct 2005 sent papers
Nov 2005 Receipt notice
Nov 2005 Fingerprinting notice
Dec 2005 Fingerprint
Jan 2006 Interview

Passed interview but was told that background check is not back yet. Still waiting to this day. Called FBI, they said that fingerprinting went well. Sent it the next day itself. Now my question is why is it taking that long? My GC didnt't even take 6 months.

Did my interview in the Boston office. Not sure what to do at this point. A background check doesnt have to take 7 months +. I have a clean record.

Thanks for your input, RTC. The fact that you called FBI is very intriguing. Would you share the number with us, I would love to give them a call myself. Of course, if anyone else knows a reliable number to reach FBI and inquire the status of N400 application background check, please post it here as well, your comment is highly appreciated.

Best regards to all.

RTC, please, keep in touch.

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on the N-400 application length for someone living in Chicago?

Also, if I have successfully fulfilled all criteria for naturalization (for the past 5 years) yet have been outside of the US constantly for the first 3 years of having a green card, would that jeoparidize my application at all? Or is USCIS concerned with the last 5 years only?

Please advise. Thank you.

Try later.
They are probably updating the site.
It's one of the best sources on N-400 applications (with actual processing timeframe of various N-400 applicants from different Districts in US).

Good luck,

IE

It finally worked! Thanks alot.

One question:

Since I live in Illinois, I will have to send my application to the Nebraska service center however on the USCIS website they do not give processing times for the N-400 at each respective service center.

However, they give information on the Chicago district office which as of now says that it is processing applications as of February 15 2006 receipt date.

In essence, does that mean that the process should take about 6 months (i.e. since we are in August?)

If you could also clarify the Nebraska/Chicago service/district center issue, that would be great.

Thanks again.

Edgrapes,

Any news of Oath Ceremony yet ?
What happened ? They should have done the Background check by now. That is too long.

Keep us posted.

BTW..my wife's 1-130 which was upgraded from F2A to Immediate Relative worked fine and approved in 2 months. Few more months to process her application at Consulate in India.

Thanks for all your posts and information.

Chris

chichi,

I am still waiting for any news from USCIS and/or FBI. I am not sure what I can do at this point of time. There is a comment posted by another member (Road to Citizenship) above that it is possible to call FBI directly, but I couldn't get the right number. Do you know any info that can help me to speed things up? Any comment from you or any other member on this board is highly appreciated.

Regards to all.

It has been a long time since you have putin your N-400, my brother who lives in Florida, he applyed in May, 2005, and got his citizenship from Orlando office in April 2006.
I think you better apply for Infopass and talk to some responsible officer at Miami Office.

You can also look up for FBI Office in your Area or you can locate Washington DC office on internet. and call the send them email.
Wish you all the best.

What about Pasha, where his case stand now?

Dastur, unfortunately there are no responsible officers at Miami Office. I had an Infopass appointment about 2 months ago, waited for about 2 hours until they called just to hear that nothing they can do because they are waiting for a reply from FBI background check. Thanks for the tip about FBI office, this is what I am going to do, go to the source of the problem.

I think Pasha got his citizenship approved not long ago, there are should be some posts from him.

Good luck an keep in touch.

edgrapes,

You can call this number for FBI background checks. You can either call or write to them on the address below. If you involve or copy your letters to Senetors, Congressman that will atleast ring bell in their minds.

I hope this helps.
