The appointment went OK

They have requested certified copy of few documents and the things will be OK.
They have kept the forms and fees and told my wife to come back with those documents anytime during Monday to Friday regular office hours.

We will be collecting the documents and getting back to the office sometime in January.

Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks,
Chris

They have asked for few more documents. Like certified copy of the court judgement for my divorce. My wife took pictures of our wedding and they have asked for DVD/CD for wedding ceremony. They have accepted the forms and fees and told her to come back anytime with those documents and movie along with her medical records of pregnancy.

I have collected the documents from here and she will take another appointment within 15-20 days.

Will tell you as soon as the process is done.

Thanks,

Chris

There are forms to fill out. I will list it:

DS-2029- Consular report of birth abroad to citizen parent/parents. This form also contains the application for social security number. Which needs to be filled out. With form DS-2029 you need to submit the affidavit of physical presence for 5 years in United States.

DS-11 - Application for US Passport. (You also need to submit the consent form (DS-3053) if child is under 14.

With all this forms, you need to have birth certificate of child from home country with US citizen parent listed as father or mother.

You also need the proof of relationship (Photos of marriage, CD, DVD, copy of phone bills, e-mails or any other proof of relationship between parents)

You need the proof of relationship to child, like pictures, mails, letters etc. If you can be present at the interview you do not need to sign the consent (DS-3053) form but then they may ask for DNA test from hospital appointed by US Consulate abroad.

They also ask for certified copy of court judgement if the US citizen parent was married before to someone else and now divorced, like me. I sent them the copy of original judgement but they want the certified copy from court. So, people be carefull.

All this information is available on the website of US Consulate in particular country. It is listed under US Citizen services section (Report of birth abroad)

You can check with that.

*********************************

As far as my case is concerned, I have certified copy of my earlier divorce, proof of my marriage, medical records for my wife, her baby shower pictures, my phone bills showing her number called.

My wife will go back with all the required documents within next 20-25 days and will let you all know what happens.

Thanks a lot for input from many members.

Chris

Hello, Friends,

Everything went perfect except the relationship of myself and my son. Since I haven't been there, I haven't seen him and so I don't have pictures with him or any other proof. They have ordered a DNA test and once that is done, my son will be approved for citizenship.
The procedure is simple but for those who are in the same process of applying for child citizenship should consider doing DNA ahead of time, so that the time it is taking in my case can be avoided.

I will keep you all posted.

Thanks,

Chris

On 15th of February, they took DNA sample from my wife and my son. They have already collected my sample month ago. Now those samples will be sent to the lab here in US and then based on that results, the case will be processed. I will keep you all posted.
Hopefully, first week of march.

Thanks,

Chris

Adam,

You were supposed to find out the details of the law regarding this type of cases. What happened ? I already got the application approved. All the documents submitted were true and they were accepted as they should have. The case is approved and so, what you were telling me was different. I wouldn't say wrong but you probably had different understanding of the documents and the requirements.

I beleived in myself and read the documents and followed all the requirements carefully without any help of any lawyer and I did it. It may not be too difficult, if you read it carefully.

Keep me posted if you get anything different from this. I will gladly share my experence in this matter.

Thanks,

Chris

I would like you to answer question. Before we move to the citizenship of your child.

1. Was you a U.S. Citizen for five years?
