Illegal Immigrant Rescues Boy in Desert By TERRY TANG Associated Press writer
PHOENIX - A 9-year-old boy looking for help after his mother crashed their van in the southern Arizona desert was rescued by a man entering the U.S. illegally, who stayed with him until help arrived the next day, an official said. The 45-year-old woman, who eventually died while awaiting help, had been driving on a U.S. Forest Service road in a remote area just north of the Mexican border when she lost control of her van on a curve on Thanksgiving, Sheriff Tony Estrada said.
The van vaulted into a canyon and landed 300 feet from the road, he said. The woman, from Rimrock, north of Phoenix, survived the impact but was pinned inside, Estrada said.
Her son, unhurt but disoriented, crawled out to get help and was found about two hours later by Jesus Manuel Cordova, 26, of Magdalena de Kino in the northern Mexican state of Sonora. Unable to pull the mother out, he comforted the boy while they waited for help.
The woman died a short time later.
"He stayed with him, told him that everything was going to be all right," Estrada said.
As temperatures dropped, he gave him a jacket, built a bonfire and stayed with him until about 8 a.m. Friday, when hunters passed by and called authorities, Estrada said. The boy was flown to University Medical Center in Tucson as a precaution but appeared unhurt.
Cordova was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents, who were the first to respond to the call for help. He had been trying to walk into the U.S. when he came across the boy.
The boy and his mother were in the area camping, Estrada said. The woman's husband, the boy's father, had died only two months ago. The names of the woman and her son were not being released until relatives were notified.
Cordova likely saved the boy, Estrada said, and his actions should remind people not to quickly characterize illegal immigrants as criminals.
"They do get demonized for a lot of reasons, and they do a lot of good. Obviously this is one example of what an individual can do," he said.
LEARN ENGLISH !!! Illegal = Criminal Are we supposed to be celebrate that this guy maintained a minimum of human decency? How do we know that he didn't cause the accident to rob some gringo?

Yes, we should celebrate the care given by the undocumented man. And,yes--we do not know the cause of the accident, so the maybe's are not relevant. Just accept the fact that a man who was evading the border patrol for whatever reason took the risk of helping the stranger.

' Criminal is one who was convicted of a felony. An EWI for a first offense is a misdemeanor, not a felony. Repeated EWI is defined as an "aggravated felony." So, do you now want to classify any person as a criminal if they are convicted of a misdemeanor offense?
As for the young man, he did something that each of us should be expected to do if given the same opportunity. I applaud him for that.

A misdemeanor is a crime; this is just the fact. If you support amnesty or want to say that this guy did a decent thing, the right thing, great; I agree. BUT do not say that a person who commits a misdemeanor or a felony is not a criminal. I am the number one supporter of immigration in the world. So don't pprtray me as anyi-immigrant. But lets be honest and call things for what they are.
I have a simple and easy to implement 4 step solution to all the world's problems:
1) Invade Mexico and Canada and make them American colonys; make English their offiicial language; kick the French out
2) Only hot young girls can immigrate to the US; no one over 40 allowed to immigrate in
3) Deport all Moslems; Ban their religion; nuke their cities
4) Deport or kill all convicted crimonals regardless if they are US Citizens

Deaf, dumb, and stupid, a misdemeanor is a crime, but does not make one a criminal.

I am beginning to think that you escaped from this place.

Dumb-debb, Canada's official language for every provence except Quebec is English.

Even if you could get this, you still won't be able to sleep with them.

Please spell Moslems as Muslim. However, not all Muslims are terrorists. To make that leap of faith is simply preposterous.

Mohommad is the anti-Christ; this is a well documented fact and the teachings of all Christian and Jewish faiths. Even athiests who do not believe in God believe that Mohommad is the anti-Christ. Any devil worshipper; Moslem, Muslem, whatever must be killed and destroyed.
If you commit DUI, you are a criminal and should be killed to teach you a lesson.
Very few traffic violations are actually misdemeanors; they are violations. If whatever you do rises to the level of a misdemeanor, then you are a criminal.

No RN, you will need coloring books, a awesome power point presentation, and Mr. Rogers to explain it to him for a chance at him understanding. IMHO.

Mohammad was a lot of things, but not the anti-Christ. The Rapture has not been performed according to the Scriptures. You want to try this again without mixing those purple pills and white pills that you are taking?

Yes, illegal = criminal. It doesn't matter if it is a misdemeanor or a felony.
Misdemeanor - Law. a criminal offense defined as less serious than a felony.
Question: When you get a ticket for speeding you broke the law---Are you a criminal?
Answer: Yes, until you've completed restitution, you are a criminal. Whether it is jail, community service, a fine, etc, or in this case, you've returned to your home country, completed the ten year ban (or however many years it is), or whatever a judge has imposed.
Very rarely will mere speeding be a misdemeanor. If you are drag racing or are exceeding the speed limit by a lot then it could become one. Someone going 70 on a 60 MPH is not a criminal but merely a traffic violater and will get a ticket; someone drag racing in a school zone at 120 MPH is committing a misdemeanor crime punishable by a jail sentence. Below Felony is a misdemeanor and below misdemeanor is a violation. Misdemeanors and Felonys are considered crimes. A person convicted of a misdemeanor is , IN FACT, considered a criminal. This is not a debatable poin, it is a definitional observation.

If you run a red light and are NOT caught, you are still a criminal. You can be sent a ticket in the mail weeks later, you can be found by a witness later etc. Even though you are not caught then and there you are a criminal until the statute of limitations runs out. Example: If you embezzel from a company and are not caught right away, you are still a criminal, until the statute of limitations runs out. If you are caught, a charge would have to be filed, run it's course through the courts and a judge/jury would have to find you guilty or innocent. Although you are innocent until proven guilty, you still have a criminal account that must be answered to and either convicted of or expunged, by a judge/jury.
There is no statute of limitations on the act of becoming an illegal alien. Therefore you remain a criminal (until decided on by a judge).
