I do not want to be supportive to Someone12, but under B1 visa you can not work at all. I know this issue quite well as I have been working for six months at US embassy in my born country as a local employer. There is no exception at all unless you change status which might offer work visa. There are a lot of people who come to USA under B1 visa and work at places especially restaurants where they get cash under the table. On the other hand I do not think the law has changed unless you know better.
