Does anyone know if it is really taking 6 months to process? Can anyone tell me if their experience has been sooner than this?

Thanks Mike. One more question if you don't mind-I heard about an extension letter you get to be able to travel? If the GC expires in March and we still haven't heard from the 751 application is there a way to leave the country in the meantime with this extension?

well,ok,,when u file the i-751 the uscis well sent a letter telling u that they extended ur status for 12 months and travel and work are authorized, but when this extention expired u wont be getting anything from them by mail anymore,,u have to go in person to ur local office and take that extention letter and ur id card or ur green card and they will stamp ur passport with 1 year extention,,but if u want my advise,,dont u ever leave the country while ur i-751 is still pending,,never,,even if u have the extention, and even if ur still married, dont leave the country.bcoz u never really know ,by law u can,,,but just dont do it .wait until after u get ur i-751 approved and u get ur 10 years green card, then do whatever u want..

Everyone will have a different processing time based on where you reside and what service center handles your application.

Click on processing times in the blue area at the left of the screen. Find your service center and select 751 to find out your processing time for where you live. These are updated monthly.

If you have received your 1 year extension. you will not have any problems traveling or returning to the usa. Just make sure you have your expired green card and the 1 year extension letter with you at all times.
