Yes, very serious and he arrives Sunday at 10:25 a.m. at BWI.

He telephoned me Thursday night and he will learn quickly. As long as I spoke slowly he was able to communicate with me.

Why should you speak Spanish? The kid is coming to America, and he evidently can - and should - speak English, and he will become fluent when he is here. Quite honestly, this country needs to stop making exceptions for those who speak Spanish.

If immigrants speak a language other than Spanish, we correctly expect that they should learn English...but, if they speak Spanish we pander to them and expect that we should learn Spanish. This helps NOONE.

It is no accident that Spanish-speaking immigrants are generally - and by some margin - the slowest to assimilate and become Americanized. By pretending to be accommodating, we do nothing but hold them back...and encourage their expectations that they are somehow...er, "special."
