I have by-passed the 6month period that is allowed for a person to stay in the US having a B1/B2 visa. I am planning on getting married to a citizen of US. Now this is the problem. I know that the work permit will be provided within the 10 days of marriage. But is it possible for a husband living in one state while the wife lives in another? Please let me know as soon as you can.

Work permit won't be provided within 10 days of marriage. Someone has been feeding you BS. It will take months. And the fact that you don't live with your husband is a red flag.

Fresh Taco is right. in order to get a work permit (EAD - employment authorization document) you have to file form I-765 which will be granted while I-485 (adjustment of status) and I-130 (petition for alien relative) are being processed. you need to file these forms in order to become legal. however, if you and your husband don't live together I doubt that the CIS will buy that your marriage is in good faith. the good news is that if you work illegally for a period of time, this will be excused with the marriage-based AOS (but you will still have to prove to the CIS that your marriage is legit)
so move in with your fiancee, get married and file your paper-work
