Hi,
My hubie is on a student visa to the us and is now in opt. He had to apply for f2 visa for me and has been taking very long for the process.

He says the reason, that his record is SEVIS shows an error in his record and so his INS had contacted the help desk there. What could be the reason of a data record error in SEVIS , does anybody have an idea?

thanks,
-Kellogy

He had gone for a fresh I20 with dependent information to INS. Authorities at INS had told him that there is a error in his record in SEVIS and so they have called help desk at SEVIS

My hubie has a valid visa only till dec 2004. He has been prolonging this procedure for long. So i want to confirm that things are not goofed up.

You didnt say what the error was... I wonder if BCIS (INS) checks with SEVIS for AOS too for Immigration benefits.

He told me that his university INS had made some errors when entering his marks in the last fall.

I'm really not aware of the processes....

I read from some website that he has to get I20 from his univeristy and thats is all i know.

What is the actual procedure?

He should talk to his International Student Advisor and they should clear it up with USCIS. An error can be corrected but he has to be persistent and follow up with International Student Office of his University. He should also get in writing from the office that this error was caused due to whatever reason.... He should also consult some good Immigration attorney because this error can effect his future immigration prospects.
Good luck.

Is this a routine check from BCIS to SEVIS? or are they just doing based on suspicious information on the I20?

Is SEVIS check considered background check for AOS - just like FBI check?

If there is an error in sevis, the error can be corrected or a reinstatement is required. How fast would SEVIS help desk take for this error correction..

Is it possible to transfer from visitor visa to F2 visa after reaching US with visitor visa first?

To apply for F2 visa, what is the minimum balance to be maintained in his bank account and for how long the balance need to be maintained??
