The number of Hispanic members of Congress has increased by ten, with the addition of Ted Cruz of Texas to the Senate and nine more House representatives. Cruz, a Tea Party Republican who ran on an anti-immigration platform, joins Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the upper chamber. The House saw its Latino representation increase by nearly 50% going from 19 members to 28.
