    ComingsNGoings: Immigration Event
February 25, 2016, 2 - 3pm (Eastern). The Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman will hold a teleconference on issues related to Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) benefits for certain nonimmigrant workers (and their dependents), including H and L nonimmigrants. Individuals whose employers file timely for extension of nonimmigrant status receive an automatic 240-day extension of work authorization while the petition remains unadjudicated. However, USCIS does not provide these individuals with documentary evidence of status to present DMV officials as they seek to renew their expired drivers' licenses. Some states allow DMV offices to issue drivers' licenses while extensions are pending, but many do not, and the individuals must await USCIS final adjudication of their extensions of stay. The Ombudsman is interested in hearing from affected individuals and employers about this issue, and participants will have an opportunity to provide input during the Q&A section of the teleconference. RSVP with "DMV Benefits" in the subject line by Wednesday February 24, 2016 to CISOmbudsman.PublicAffairs@hq.dhs.gov.
