    Comment: GOP Kabuki Theatre
    The Washington Post carries an article showing the evolution of immigration positions of Republican Presidential candidates over time, which it calls a play in three acts. John McCain and Mitt Romney, in the past Presidential elections, and Marco Rubio and Scott Walker, in this primary election, seem to be following the script.

    • Act 1: We should have comprehensive immigration reform. This is what future candidates say when the next presidential election is still a few years away...
    • Act 2: Secure the border first! As primary season approaches, the candidates realize that the Republican primary electorate isn't interested in comprehensive reform, and in order to appeal to them, it's necessary to demonstrate toughness and strength...
    • Act 3: Can we talk about something else? Once the general election arrives, the Republican nominee will make a fruitless attempt to stop his hemorrhaging among Latino voters by changing the subject...

    Secure the border first!" is an utterly hollow position, because it's never followed by any specificity about how we'll know when the border is "secure." So long as even a single immigrant can find a way in, it will be possible for Republicans to say that the border is not yet secure, so we can't enact any of the other parts of immigration reform.

    We urge Republican Presidential candidates hold on to their guns, and not give in to short term pressures by the anti-immigrationists during the Primary cycle. For what Primary election giveth, the General election taketh away and then some. Those who want to be a President not just a Presidential candidate should take note of that.

    • Using experience gained with the same or a related employer to satisfy the 5 year experience requirement;

    • Getting a Prevailing Wage that the employer can afford to pay.

    SECOND Phone Session - Overcoming common recruitment problems

    • How to recruit for a job involving multiple unanticipated locations;
    • Avoiding the dreaded "death spiral" - fixing recruitment problem in mid-stream without losing expensive newspaper advertisements and other recruitment efforts;
    • How to counsel the employer on appropriately considering qualified and rejecting unqualified applicants;
    • The special problems presented by apparently non-U.S. workers;
    • The limits of the attorney's role in recruitment.

    THIRD Phone Session on March 5, 2015 - Post-Filing Issues: Audits, Supervised Recruitment, and Overcoming Denials

    • Overcoming the "familial relationship" audit:
    • Establishing the "business necessity" of controversial requirements;
    • Surviving supervised recruitment hell;
    • Overcoming denials with new evidence;
