    Comment: Some Republicans Hate America
    Politico reports on a battle going on between House and Senate Republicans on immigration. This battle is not just due to Senate rules. The deeper issue is that Senators are elected by entire states whereas House Representatives are elected by small geographical areas that are gerrymandered to concentrate those of similar political persuasions. As a result, Senators, Republican and Democratic, are a more moderate bunch that are in touch with the entire range of views of their constituents. It is not surprising that the approach to immigration of most Senators is moderate.

    A significant minority of House Republicans have lost their mind in their attempt to pander to their small gerrymandered electorate. They hate the President-about which we have no opinion because we are not a political newspaper; and they hate immigration-about which we have a strong opinion because we are an immigration periodical. They think all immigration is bad and they don't want it. NO immigration is their real policy though they don't want to come out and say it. The underlying reason for their hate is that they see that immigration brings too many non-whites to America. They may not admit it and in some cases may not even know it, but the sum of their actions on immigration leave open no other explanation-no matter how strenuously they deny it. Open racism is one thing-despicable as it is; but closet racism is worse.

    These rascals are not in the majority of the Republican party-but the majority of the Republican Party has not only tolerated these closest racists among their midst, but have backpaddled on their own positions to appease them. This cowardice is suicidal-it has set the Republican Party against a large and growing demographic increasingly frustrating Republican dreams for the Presidency. Battling the closest racists in their midst is not going to be pleasant for moderate Republicans, but it is an inevitable battle for the soul of the Republican Party. The more they postpone it, the greater will be the pain both for the Republican Party and for the country.

    We invite Senate Majority Leader McConnell, former Florida Governor Bush and other statesmen of the Republican Party to deport these rascals from the Republican Party and from America for their profoundly Un-American ideas and actions that are destroying fundamental American values through their closet racism and hatred of immigrants.
