    Comment: Precedent for President
    National Journal looks at all the legislative changes that have taken place on immigration of the undocumented since 1965, and finds that almost every time they are preceeded by Presidential action

    The playbook is pretty simple: Parole some undocumented people. Wait for the furor to die down. Sign a law a few years later to legalize them permanently. It is how presidents for the past 40 years, Republicans and Democrats, have handled the thorny problem of immigration.

    This pattern of action can be seen in a variety of examples: during Cuban exodus of 1980, Haitian flight in 1986, Goerge H. W. Bush's deferral of deportation of 1.5 million children and spouses of recepients of the 1986 amnesty, and more. President Obama has plenty of Presidential precedent in initiating executive action to protect the worthy undocumented who are an integral part of the American economy.
