  • July 1- Executive Action on CIR

    Comment: Executive Action on CIR
Politico reports that President Obama declared his commitment to using executive action to fix nations broken immigration system. The Politico article describes the behind the scenes actions that led to the announcement.

"The president's shift to addressing immigration through executive action began last Tuesday when, according to the White House and Boehner's office, the two leaders talked briefly... The White House says Boehner told Obama that the House wouldn't vote on reform this year. White House aides say they then took the better part of a week to sort out the details of what Obama could and couldn't announce right away... Obama said he would announce a slate of new executive actions on immigration by the end of the summer... Obama did not indicate what he kind of relief he would provide through his executive authority..."
We have long argued that President Obama should use his executive powers to provide immigration relief. It appears that the White House is finally readying itself to follow up on its success on DACA - we look forward to the details. Please let us know your thoughts by writing to us at editor@ilw.com.
