  • Jan 8 - Chamber of Commerce Pushes CIR

Comment: Chamber of Commerce Pushes CIR
CNN reports that US Chamber of Commerce will be doing everything it can to move CIR through Congress this year.

"We're determined to make 2014 the year that immigration reform is finally enacted," Thomas Donohue said. "The Chamber will pull out all the stops - through grassroots lobbying, communications, politics and partnerships with unions, faith organizations, law enforcement and others - to get it done… Donohue refuted the idea that immigration reform would not pass in 2014, a midterm election year when very little, if anything, gets done on Capitol Hill. "We hope to turn that assumption on its ear," he said. "It's based on a simple theory: If you can't make them see the light, then at least make them feel some heat."
It is good to see reliable Republican supporters like the Chamber of Commerce vigorously pushing a pro-immigration agenda. We hope that it emboldens the pro-immigration wing and the leadership of the Republican Party to stand up and push back at the shenanigans of the party's anti-immigrationist wing.
