  • Jun 14 - Fiscal Impact Of Immigration

    Comment: Fiscal Impact Of Immigration
The New York Times reports on a OECD report that finds that immigration is not a financial burden to OECD governments.

"Immigrants contribute more in tax and social contributions than they get in individual benefits," said Jean-Christophe Dumont, the OECD official who headed the study... The OECD study found that the average age of immigrant populations affected their fiscal impact: the younger the immigrants, the greater the positive contribution. In a country like the United States, with a young immigrant base and relatively weak social welfare net, the positive impact is great, the study found."
The anti-immigrationists continue to use a variety of lies about immigrants - from racial stereotypes, to funny fiscal math - to attempt to deny the immense positive impact of immigration on the US. Their position continues to become less and less tenable. Share your thoughts by writing to editor@ilw.com.
