  • Blogging: Anti-immigrant Firebrand Michele Bachmann Will Not Run For Reelection by Roger Algase

    Bloggings on Immigration Law

Anti-immigrant Firebrand Michele Bachmann Will Not Run For Reelection.

One of America's worst Congressional immigrant-haters has decided not to run for re-election. Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican, announced today that she is ending her career in the House.

While she denied that an ongoing ethics investigation or the fact that she held onto her seat in 2012 by a very narrow margin against her Democratic challenger had anything to do with her decision, news reports in media such as the Washington Post, Politico and the Huffington Post imply that these factors may have had everything to do with her announcement.

This may not necessarily end Bachmann's career. As some have suggested, there may always be Fox News in her future.

Few if any members of Congress have been more anti-immigrant than Bachmann. A Google search of her quotes shows that she not only supported state immigration laws such as the one in Arizona, but that she has insisted that every single unauthorized immigrant should be deported, that every inch of the Mexican border should be made "secure" and that the 14th Amendment's guarantee of birthright citizenship should be disregarded in the case of children born in the US to unauthorized immigrant parents.

Michele Bachman's anti-immigrant bigotry will not be missed.
