    Comment: Boehner On Immigration

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) was re-elected to his second two-year term as the 113th Congress convened today. Receiving 220, Boehner was able to narrowly win the re-election to the House Democratic Leader, Nancy Pelosi, who received 192 votes. While Boehner directly addressed the need to act upon the national debt crisis, it is expected that other major issues such as immigration, gun control, and certain domestic policies will be addressed early in this term. In November of last year, Boehner admitted that he was confident that the two parties can come upon a plan toward comprehensive immigration reform. He has also promised to prioritize the issues surrounding immigration, therefore, his re-election as Speaker is significant. How early any action will be taken by the 113th Congress on immigration, however, can only be told by time. Share your thoughts by writing to editor@ilw.com.
