The American Immigration Council (AIC) has issued a report entitled Empty Benches: Underfunding of Immigration Courts Undermines Justice.

The report explains that the Obama administration's aggressive expansion of immigration enforcement without the necessary increases in immigration court resources has placed extraordinary burdens on our Courts, which are marked by high caseloads and low staffing. This has resulted in a backlog of pending deportations rapidly reaching the half-million mark with average hearing delays of over a year and a half. To compound matters, the Obama administration has created a "rocket docket" that prioritizes the deportation of immigrant children further taxing court resources and violating due process. They conclude that unless there is a substantial increase in the number of immigration judges the system will remain crippled.

Justice delayed, after all, is justice denied.
