I walked the Hills of Congress a half dozen times this year and in my discussions with staffers regarding immigration reform, a common point was raised over and over. It was critical to get something passed before the August recess because no one wanted to go home and face the wrath of Tea Party activists in town hall events and elsewhere.

But a funny thing happened. Anti-immigration activists (mostly in the Tea Party crowd) have been mostly absent and pro-immigration advocates are everywhere. Bill Sher of Yahoo! News has a good analysis explaining what's happened.
