On September 17, 2019, E-Verify made the following enhancements to reinforce requirements for Form I-9 and E-Verify:
  1. Updated field name: The field name for the Social Security number has changed to “Unrestricted Social Security Number” from “Social Security Number”;
  2. New helper text: E-Verify added new helper text to the Unrestricted Social Security Number field to describe which Social Security Card is acceptable for E-Verify use; and
  3. Updated List C choices: The List C drop-down list now says “Unrestricted Social Security Card.”
Remember only unrestricted Social Security Cards are acceptable for Form I-9 and E-Verify. If the card has one of the following restrictions, you should ask the employee to provide a different document showing work authorization:
o NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT
o VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION
o VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION
