Comment: Labor Day And DACA; Top Articles And News For August

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1882 to pay tribute to American workers. We recognize and pay tribute to all workers in the US - both documented and undocumented - who work hard everyday to contribute to our great country - and that most emphatically includes Dreamers, who labor as Americans, and deserve to be recognized as such. We commend Microsoft's President Brad Smith who has asked Congress to prioritize Dream legislation ahead of any tax bill. We particularly commend Mr. Smith for stating "If Congress fails to act, our company will exercise its legal rights properly to help protect our employees ... If the government seeks to deport any one of [39 Microsoft employees who are Dreamers], we will provide and pay for their legal counsel. We will also file an amicus brief and explore whether we can directly intervene in any such case." We strongly encourage all American employers to stand up to the Know Nothings in our Republic, and further encourage all US employers, in the spirit of Labor Day, to ask their Congressional Representatives and Senators to fashion a fair and just solution to allow the Dreamers to become as American in law as they are in fact.
