Comment: IIUSA Election Today
Immigration Daily has covered contested AILA elections for each of the last 16 years. We have done so in an even-handed fashion, designed to facilitate the dual goals of information exchange between candidates and the bar, and to foster a climate of bar participation in elections. Our election coverage has been in the long and proud tradition of America's trade and professional press. We have never charged a dime to anyone for such coverage.

We were made aware over the last day or two that there is an election underway to the IIUSA Board of Directors and other elective positions at IIUSA. IIUSA is NOT a bar association, albeit many members of the bar are IIUSA members. This election is a matter of first impression for us, and we are not exactly sure how to proceed. On the one hand, we recognize the increased importance of investor immigration within the overall immigration context (a fact evident in articles and news and editorial comments in Immigration Daily in recent years), on the other hand, Immigration Daily has historically viewed itself as a newspaper serving the bar, and IIUSA is emphatically not a lawyers' association.

One candidate for the IIUSA election (TODAY!) alone reached out to us to get his message out, we are pleased to carry his statement below. Should other candidates reach out to us during the course of this IIUSA election, we will also carry their statements. All statements are carried without charge.

Statement from Charles Foster:
Subject: IIUSA Voting Deadline is Today, March 31st
Dear Colleague,

I have been nominated to run for a Board of Directors position with Invest in the USA (IIUSA). I believe that the big issues facing IIUSA involve brokering a compromise amongst the various EB-5 stakeholders regarding the potential reforms to the EB-5 Regional Center Program and maintain effective legislative outreach. My track record demonstrates that I have the temperament, know-how, leadership skills, and experience to advocate on behalf of all EB-5 stakeholders in order to reach a consensus approach to any reform. Members of IIUSA should have already received a link to the IIUSA primary election poll from Allen Wolff, IIUSA Associate Director of Marketing/Communications. As a candidate for the ballot, I ask that you support my Board of Directors nomination by voting for me today. You can vote here. Your support is greatly appreciated.
