Comment: Jobs for H-1B Spouses

The Huffington Post reports that the Obama Administration has proposed a rule that will allow spouses of the holders of H-1B visas to hold jobs while their spouses' permanent residence applications are being considered.

These individuals are American families in waiting, "U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said." Many tire of waiting for green cards and leave the country to work for our competition. The fact is we have to do more to retain and attract world-class talent to the United States and these regulations put us on a path to do that... Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who announced the new regulations with Pritzker, said that change could affect as many as 97,000 people in the first year and some 30,000 annually after that.
With intolerably long waiting times immigrants and their families remain in a state of limbo for years. This is a good step in the right direction to ease the suffering and mitigate economic inefficiencies generated by our broken immigration system. Please let us know your thoughts by writing to us at editor@ilw.com.
