Comment: Looming Immigrant Shortage
Lexology reports on Mexico on the rise. Mexico is becoming more developed and their economy is gaining more strength. World Bank Reports that 17 percent of the population joined the middle class in the last decade. This shift to a more middle-class life style means "a better educated population with less of a need to pack up and fewer people to actually move to the US in search of better opportunities." The pressure and the rationale for migrating to the US is on a decline. The question is can American economy function with the decreased flow of immigrant workers? By 2030, with 76 million baby boomers retiring soon and only 46 million US-born workers available to enter the work force, America will be in desperate need of immigrants to fill the remaining jobs. US needs to pass comprehensive immigration reform that will allow for a path to citizenship for the undocumented already here, and make it much easier for immigrant workers to get here on a temporary and a permanent basis. If not, our economy will pay the price. Share your thoughts by writing to
