Comment: Power Still Out -
This has been one of the greatest natural disasters in the history of Manhattan. The damage was caused by a 14 foot storm surge which neither the power company, nor the subway system was designed for or prepared for. Over a quarter million homes and offices are out of power from 39th street to the tip of the island - and the power company expects to take up to four days to restore power. Seven subway tunnels under the east river are flooded with salt water, and it will take several days to fully bring the subway system, which carries the life-blood of the city, back to normal. These two hits combined greatly diminish the ability of this great city to do business. The power is still out at the ILW.COM offices in mid-town Manhattan. Our team members have produced this edition of Immigration Daily working from offices of an immigration law firm in mid-town which has kindly lent us a conference room. Until power is restored to our offices, we will continue to produce an abbreviated version of Immigration Daily for our readers. Send your comments to: editor@ilw.com.
