PERMs and SVP Codes

When determining whether the position requirements are "normal" for the occupation, it is also important to consider the position's SOC/ONET Code and to correctly calculate the SVP levels and SVP Years (this is also important for determining the alternate requirements).

For example, for PERM purposes, Associates and Bachelor's degrees both carry 2 SVP years while the Master's degree carries 4 years.

Therefore, if a job requires a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience, the US DOL will value the bachelor's degree at two years and experience at additional 2 years for a total of 4 years of SVP.

Once the final total SVP years are calculated we transfer the years into the appropriate SVP level by using the formula below (in this case it would be SVP Level 7).
